How to achieve red hair with naturally dark hair?

I have naturally dark brown hair with blond highlights in the front part of my hair, I'm tired of the blond now and wanted to achieve red on a level of about this http://www.beautifulhairstyles.com/redha... or this http://www.lsalon.com/images-models/RED-... I want to dye my whole hair this color, what dye do you reccomend that isn't too damaging and should I dye my highlights back to my original color before dying my hair? Thanks.

I'd definitely go to a salon to get it done. I've had a lot of experience with box colors and the salon is always best. They'll have to lighten your hair and then dye it but I guarantee that if you go to a good salon you'll get exactly the shade you want.

Also, I don't think you need to dye the highlights back.

Good luck! I'm sort of wishing my hair was that color now!

well my hairs dark brown (almost black) and i got a color like that put in last month and i had to bleach my hair...

however in like 8th grade i used to dye my hair red over my color with dye (without bleaching) and it would come out. it wouldn't be BRIGHT, but it was a dark red. i had to bleach it to get it bright though.

you'll probably have to bleach it to get that color though, and bleach all your hair the same color (that means your highlights too) or you're gonna have different colors in your hair. it happened to me when i put purple in the other day

My hair was this color the first time I dyed it from black, and I did it without bleaching. I would say get an UNNATURAL red, and dye it with that, leaving it in a bit longer and applying heat so the color will sort of cling. Manic Panic isn't damaging at all, but I've used almost every red color there is and "Creme of Nature" worked best for me. It comes in "Intensive Red" and is sold at Sally and shows up beautifully on any color of hair. But I would say to get it that intense, you'd have to bleach it first.

I would say don't dye your highlights, because it would add a very nice affect with the red and lighter color in there. I've seen it done, and think it's beautiful. Hope this helps.
