From Dark Brown to Strawberry Blond! Yipes! I Need Tips!?

I agreed (reluctantly) to allow my director to hire a professional hair stylist to dye my hair strawberry blond for a play I'm in. I have very dark brown hair (think Angelina Jolie) that is all natural and has not been dyed in years. It is also very long and thick.

Before I do this I want to be informed! What is the best way for the stylist to lighten my hair and make it look natural? I've looked at a lot of pictures and the girls hair looks flat and orange. How can I ensure this doesn't happen to me?

Does anyone have any good pics that I could bring in as an example? Thanks for any help!

There will be 1 of 2 ways.

1 they could bleach it to white, and then deposit a strawberry blonde toner

2. they could try to bleach down and stop at strawberry blonde. for example it will turn orange first and they will have to know what they are doing so that they can leave it on for the correct amount of time, because yes it could look un natural.

Either way it is going to fry your hair very badly. Alot of your hair will break off on the ends in about 6 months unless you use exellent products to re-strengthen it

If you're going blonde your eyebrowns will still be dark. If they're really thin it shouldn't really be that big of a deal, but if they're not then find eyebrow dye

If youre hair is thick, you wouldnt have to worry about it getting thin and gross. If its being done by a profesional i really wouldnt worry. but if youre going from really dark to light, then you have to know itll be high maintenance. for the first little while youll need to get it done ALOT so no roots show.

If you're having a proffessional hair stylist dye your hair then you shouldn't have to worry. Generally the girls that look flat and orange either did it at home, or were crazy enough to ask for it. For whatever reason they think it looks good. Psycho, I know.

Find pictures of blonds who have the shade of hair color you want and ask your stylist to match that rather than attempting to pick out the dye they use yourself. Also ask for highlights and tell him you're going for a natural blond look.

I'd also ask for recommendations for some good conditioner to prevent the dye from severely damaging your hair.

To find good picks, google 'strawberry blond hair' you should pull up some images like what you want.

Good Luck!

i would really consider a wig because to get to strawberry blonde they are going to bleach all your hair and for the sake of a play i wouldn't do it....

Good luck. You're not dying your hair blond, you are bleaching it.

Bleach causes damage to the hair shaft that is impossible to reverse, so make sure you get a good colorist that will not over-do it. If you like your long, dark hair, the best bet is to use something that is as gentle as possible to your hair; that way, you can dye with a dark brown color once the play is through and you'll have your nice dark hair back, and it will still be relatively healthy.
